    brilliant classical musical.

modern day musical fans probably won't love the easy going easy listening music in this film, but us traditionalists will love it

    defo worth watching

A classic, I thoroughly enjoyed singing along to the well-known songs. Made me want to go and read the play again.

  • You can't say I'm not open minded... My Fair Lady.

Just thought I'd do a review of this one because I'm clearly not the target audience for a musical (I am neither female nor homosexual) but I was really surprised at how excellent this film is and how well it has aged.

The lovely Miss Hepburn's insultingly bad cockney accent should have put me off this film, but it didn't. If anything the fact that she spends the first bit of the film screaming like a mentally ill person makes it more amusing.

The story (which you will know from reading above) is quite an interesting comment on the true meaning of class. The songs are, for the most part, lyrically very clever and yes, I do mean that. If a rapper today came up with rhymes as snappy and tight as the speech proffesor in this film you wouldn't fail to be impressed. Look, I'm only telling it how it is.

The film is two hours and fifty three minutes long. Usually I projectile vomit at the thought of a film being that long - I've always said 'If it has to be that long, the editor should have been more ruthless with his scissors'. Not the case here, after a while I really wanted to know the outcome and sat glued to it. It really did not feel that long.

So there it is, I genuinely liked a film my Nan would have probably liked when she was alive. Just goes to show, you should always keep an open mind (except, of course, if it's some of the rotten old guff in the cinema at the moment, you might as well keep your mind closed there - unless you want it full of Transformers 2 or Mission Impossible 4 or some other such uninspired sht). You might surprise yourself.

If you enjoyed watching 'Oliver' or Little Shop of Horrors one christmas you will almost certainly enjoy this even more. It only loses half a star because I thought the ending was a bit too sudden and abrupt. I'll say no more.

Perhaps someone out there who only likes epic musicals should try one of the films on my review list and experience the 'liking stuff you wouldn't have expected to like in a million years' phenomenon.

Can you love 2 films equally? I do, I'm a big fan of Pygmalion, the original story, and I just LOVE My Fair Lady.

Not so fair: a largely stagebound adaptation of one of the great musical plays, one that never leaves the studio sets and thoroughly miscasts Audrey Hepburn as the guttersnipe who is transformed by an arrogant phonetics teacher. The fair stuff: a witty script, a delightful turn by Rex Harrison, some amazing costumes by Cecil Beaton and the tunes. Oh, the tunes - one of the finest collections of songs ever put together to service an irrestistible story.
