The teaming of WC Fields and Mae West should have resulted in one of the funniest wisecracking movies of all time, but this spoof western never came close to hilarity and ended up as merely rollicking fun. Returning to the screen after two years, West (aided by Fields) penned a script that suited her style of precisely timed innuendo, but which also reined in Fields's unique brand of off-the-cuff rambling. There are some memorable moments, such as their wedding night, the crooked poker game and the scene in which they trade catch phrases, but the linking narrative is mostly pretty ponderous stuff.
A clash of comedy personalities which is affectionately remembered but in truth does not play very well apart from the odd line.
I enjoyed this film more than I expected
to.
The slickness and profesionalism of Mae West and W.C Fields in slapstick is difficult to surpass.Predictable perhaps, but isn't that what most people like?
