    Family movie

A contender for the ultimate child friendly family movie?

    Yup!

If you don't have any children, I suggest you rent some so you'll have an excuse to watch this movie!! My wife and I don't have any kids, but that didn't stop us from spending an enchanting evening in with the DVD.

If you liked Spirited Away, you'll love this!

There's a reason why the average rating for this movie is 6/7 (at the time of writing) - It's a delightful tale with fantastic visuals!

    Pure innocent fun

Another amazing Hayao Miyazaki anime movie.

You really can't help but love this film. You may think it's aimed at children, but it is certainly enjoyed by millions of people of all ages, due to the fact it's a wonderful story with a feel-good atmosphere. Everything about this movie is great. The animation and characters are just brilliant - one of the nicest movies you can watch.

    Wish I was younger

Umm, not sure about this. I love Studio Ghibli films - they usually tend to tread the line between childrens' film and grown up animation, but this is the first one I've seen that is firmly in the kiddy camp. It's still very clever stuff and definitely fun, but I think this is one for the younger viewer.

    Classic anime

A wonderful heart warming story. That brings out the child in you. I own this myself on DVD, so my children too can enjoy

    it.

If you can watch the others by Hayao Miyazaki, studio ghibli. The lastest addition Spirited away, which is highly recommened.

Not my favourite Miyazaki but still full of charm

I am a huge Miyazaki fan so feel free to tone down what I am saying in this review a little if you aren’t.

This isn’t his best work but there are certain things that every Miyazaki film does for you no matter how old you are. Without fail, it will make you smile and without fail somewhere in there you will stare stupidly at the screen and get a flash of wonder that stays with you for at least the rest of the day.

The truly utterly amazing thing about Miyazaki is that none of his films are remotely sappy or bad sentimental. He doesn’t beat you over the head with sentimentality, he shows you a beautiful world and you do the rest on your own. They are moving and magical and special and scary and awe inspiring and utterly charming, he remembers what it is like to be a child and understands their world. ALL children should be allowed to watch his films.

If you can’t grab a handy child for an excuse to watch it, swallow your pride and order it anyway.

    Amazing, sweet, and funny

The illustraction in this film is spectacular, I only wish I could have seen it on a bigger screen. I watched this with my boyfriend because it was a childhood favourite of his, and although the film is technically for kids, I adored it. I found myself swept away with the magic and wonder. I'll remember this film when I have children of my own.

Not as good as Spirited away

I rented this film after falling in love with Spirited Away & Howls Moving Castle though found this to be disappointing. Although I'm 20 I really enjoyed Spirited away but My Neighbour Totoro is for a much younger audience, it didn't have the excitement & adventure of the other 2 films. It is also a lot shorter, I found myself thinking 'that was it?' also the storyline is very basic & could be told in about 5 minutes. The animation is lovely, as always, but if you're over 7years old I'd watch Spirited Away or Howls Moving Castle instead.

    Painful

Yes indeed, in Japan, many cartoons are aimed at an adult audience. My Neighbour Totoro is not one of them, as we painfully discovered. The plot is inexistent, the pace is extremely slow and the little girls' shrieks are just unbearable. If you are after a good dose of poetical realism, may I suggest Swept Away or Princess Mononoke? But if you need to entertain a two year old for a couple of hours, My Neighbour Totoro will do the trick.

    Magic

I rate this highly because it is not only a visual treat but has that rare capability to cause your children and you to laugh out loud. Pure Magic.

    Expected more

Nice enough film, but quite dull, and nothing really happens at all. You keep expecting a great adventure, and then the film ends. Disappointing.
