what a delight!

Albert Finney is fittingly cast in the role of the roguegish Uncle Silas. If you missed this on TV as I did, please take the time to watch it now. I was glued to the screen, basking in childhood memories of the characters, that seem no longer to be around these days.- Was this review helpful to you?

(6)Albert Finney is great as a lovable old rascal!
By Aubergine (22 reviews) from St. Ives , 23 May 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
I loved it, I loved it, I Ioved it! Albert Finney is wonderful as the loveable old rascal in a story set in nineteenth century England.
He's naughty but nice! There is something refreshingly nostalgic about this series. OK, we know this is Victorian England seen through rose coloured spectacles, but what the hell, this is great entertainment for a Sunday evening!- Was this review helpful to you?

Feel good factor film - Wonderful!!
By Medialovah (2 reviews) , 31 Jan 2011If you want a film you can fall back in your chair and relax to then this is just one for you. Albert Finney, as usual, puts all his charm and charisma into this comical series about a loveable country rake who takes his naive an enquiring nephew under his wing in more senses of the word. Funny and witty and evoking memories of long balmy summer days this should not fail to bring a smile to anyone's face. I certainly enjoyed every minute of it and was only desparaged when I learned that the next series is, apparently and cruely, only available to the American market. Full marks however - I certainly want more!- Was this review helpful to you?

Sweet but oh so repetitive
By Matt Whiteley from London , 12 Jan 2006All the lovely English stereotypes are there in a beautiful world gone by, but each episode is the same...
Uptight person disapproves of Uncle Silas and his drinking, he gives them a tot of his drink, they relax and have a great time whilst the nephew holds the fort. Got bored after three episodes of same.- Was this review helpful to you?
