    [Highly rated reviewer]

this dvd boxset is superb. the head investigator of the NCIS team, is Special Agent LeRoy Jethro Gibbs, who is played by Mark Harmon, he was a gunnery sergeant (gunnie), and ex- sniper in the Marine Core.

Tony Dinozzo, is an established member of NCIS, he has an enjoyable relationship with jethro, who is something of a mentor and disciplinarian to him, but stands on his own two feet, for his undisputed capability, despite a somewhat juvenile sense of humour and pursuit of women.

Ziva David played by Cote de pablo is a Mossad agent assigned to NCIS, to replace kate after her murder. Trained as an assassin by Mossad, she was a member of a specific division of Mossad that specializes in assassinations, espionage and coercion. Because of her coercion training, Ziva is not averse to using deadly force, and it was revealed that before entering NCIS she had never conducted an interrogation without causing bodily harm. She has also mentioned her abilities in the army, such as rappelling down a cliff without safety ropes and swimming three miles in freezing water at night. Ziva has a photographic memory as shown on more than one occasion.

Dr. Donald Mallard also known as Ducky, is played by the wonderful David MaCallum, he is the NCIS pathologist, medical examiner and coroner. His character is english, and loves to tell a story or two, from his long medical career, and University days. he is endearingly sweet, and despite the gruesome circumstances, where you usually encounter him, usually to be found up to his elbows, in some poor soul, as he talks to the dead, and cares for his 96 year old mother, who has Altzeimers, he is a wonderfully appealing character.

The Other major character, is the goth lab technician Abby. she is always amusing in her scenes, as she brings life and humour, into a job that has been portrayed in rather a dull light in other shows.

Abby's outfits are fabulous. in fact Abby is a real sweetheart, who brooks no argument about her science, knows what to test and why, and always comes through for the team. Gibbs is very fond of her.

Timothy Mcgee is played by Sean Murray, and is known as 'probie', particularly by Tony. he graduated from M.I.T, at the top of his class. he worked as a lab technician for NCIS. Timothy then moved to NCIS at the request of Gibbs, on a full time basis, as a field agent.

Director Jenny Shepard is played by Lauren Holly. Ziva is particularly close to NCIS Director Jenny Shepard, whom she has worked with in the past. Ziva worked with Director Shepard on joint Anti-Terrorism operatives since 2001, and on numerous occasions has been shown confiding in Shepard and relying on her for inside information the team requires in their investigations. In 'Shalom', Jenny mentions that she and Ziva travelled together around Eastern Europe. Ziva on more than one occasion has defied Gibbs and given Jenny information he doesn't want the director to find out, this is a result of Ziva and Jen's friendship dividing Ziva's loyalties at times.

Jenny also had aprevious romantic involvement with Gibbs, so tension does mount on occasion.

This show is a fine blend of forensics, clever plots, action and gentle humour.

The plots are full of twists and turns, you get enough laboratory and autopsy scenes, to engage your interest in the story, to follow the investigating leads with the team. The chemistry between all the actors is completely believable, the teasing, the banter, the infighting, the politics, and their individual private life storylines.

this series is well worth renting out.

As time goes on, this show goes from strength to strength (& it was great to start with!). Few people I know watch NCIS, but those who 'find' it, rave over it. Like me.And I'm not the usual target market - 50 going on 20!

Fantastically drawn characters, great interplay between them, a real sense of camaraderie and very witty script writing. You have to be on your toes to catch all the little aside humour. Love it!

Very good as usual. The plots have sufficient shifts to keep one's attention at all times.
