So DisapointingBy AlexPhillips (43 reviews) from UK , 05 Mar 2007

[Highly rated reviewer]I was so so disappointed with this movie. Being a huge fan of Jack Black I had such expectations of this film hoping for a return to the School of Rock form, after the dreadful King Kong. Alas it was not to be.
Although Black does the best he can with the material provided, the script is is simply not funny and I can honesty say that I did not laugh at all and rarely did a slight smile graze my lips. The plot itself is fine. It is the simple do-gooder tail of making children happy and the achievement of personal dreams and goals. However one does have to wonder why anyone bothered to make it, since we have seen the same thing many times before. Also the acting is good enough for its purposes leaving you with the impression that it is Black alone which makes the movie watchable, since it's hard to imagine anyone else in that role.
Putting it short, give this one a miss and watch School of Rock or High Fidelity once again.

Nacho LibreBy a customer from Edinburgh , 04 Aug 2009This film was disappointing, rather painful to watch. Utter rubbish really! I don't mind Jack Black (he was relatively inoffensive in The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet and Jude Law - quite endearing actually), however I honestly don't know what he was thinking climbing into that hideous suit in this film......
nacho libreBy a customer from Slough , 04 Aug 2009good film to watch if you have someone in the family who likes wrestling its funny in parts
Great potential, sadly lost.....By themacs (46 reviews) from Bridport , 26 Jul 2009Jack Black might make you laugh, and if he does, I am sure you may rate this film higher than we do. This had the makings of a great(er) movie, but which descended into bad farce. Sorry!
How can anyone hate this film?By a customer from London , 24 Jun 2009It would astound me if even a single living soul out there did not chuckle at least once while watching this film. If you did not, I am sad to imform you that you have died.
I AM therefore officially astounded as I have actually read negative reviews about Nacho Libre! Can you believe it? I am truly horrified.
This is my favourite Jack Black masterpiece. Jared Hess has such a unique style of directing. It is refreshing, quick and entertaining. You remember the film in scenes and look forward to each one of them in turn. There are indeed some scenes that I suppose could be seen as pointless, but that is the whole point of this film. It captures quirky passionate characters and relies on genius dialogue, intonation and expressions. The film could survive alone on Jack Black's lines 'Go on! Go away! Read some books!'.
Perhaps the subtlety in this film can only be grasped by those who have a more developed sense of humour. This film is not about obvious humour that would appeal to an audience of basic numbskulls. If you are a Wes Anderson fan (Life Aquatic, Royal Tenenbaums etc) or like Bill Murray, I can almost guarantee you will enjoy this simple story.
Read these quotes to decide whether you want to watch it. If you do not laugh, save it until a later date when you can grasp intelligent silliness.
Tip: Read these (in your head) in an awesome Mexican accent.
1. Nacho: They think I do not know a buttload of crap about the Gospel, but I do!
2. Esqueleto: Summon your eagle powers.
Nacho: What do you think I'm doing?
3. Nacho: I'm not listening to you! You only believe in Science. That's probably why we never win!
Esqueleto: We never win because you are fat!
4. Nacho: These are my recreation clothes.
Sister Encarnación: They look expensive.
Nacho: Thank you.
