The hottest series in years
Naruto is a brilliant anime, worth watching for anyone who enjoys programs such as Dragonball Z. However Naruto is a class above DBZ in nearly every way. This first series is hilarious and gripping, a real masterpiece.
Note: Best watched in Japanese with subtitles. The english dubbing is terrible.
At last the cult anime is on DVD in an uncut version - and it's pretty good. A bit childish but with enough earthy Japanese humour (there's a 'running' gag about Naruto's need for the toilet at the most incovenient times) and ninja action to interest older viewers. There's also something poignant about Naruto's desperate need for approval from the generally hostile populace of his town. The nine-tailed fox is a legendary figure in Japanese mythology and is regarded with great suspicion, but Naruto in his human form is just a kid who loves ramen and being a ninja.
Unlike a lot of anime series this one runs to hundreds of episodes, so if you like this volume there's plenty more adventures of Naruto and his friends/rivals Sakura and Sasuke to enjoy.
