Fantastic and hilariousBy Adam H. Gallimore from the middle of Dorset , 31 Jan 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]Having only seen many other National Lampoon films, many of which can be called crimes to celluloid (Men in White comes to mind), I doubted the quality of this one before watching.
But have no fear - this is the original and best, made at the end of the seventies before the massive influx of eighties teen films.
This film is about a frat house that is constantly failing to meet necessary academic goals, seeing as all of the people in it just want to party. This Animal House is full of great characters, especially John Belushi as Bluto, who is, thankfully, not overused. Look out for Kevin Bacon as a smarmy rival from another house.
There are many great scenes, though those set at uni are funnier than the chaos that ensues at the end.
Its legacy is clear, casting a shadow over the eighties and still seen today in films like Old School.
Definitely one to watch - hilarious.

Absolute Rubbish!By a customer , 23 Jan 2013Sorry, but I thought it was rubbish - had to turn it off as thought it was a complete waste of life!
Dated but amusing comedyBy Bassman71 (696 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 17 Jan 20131962, Two teenagers join Faber College, get assigned to Delta House, Dean not happy with them, tries to shut them down, mayhem. Dated but amusing comedy with John Belushi pretty much playing himself and stealing the show. Most of the jokes still raise a smile and the set pieces definitely influenced a lot of comedies in the same genre years later.
Classic film but poor DVD versionBy a customer , 30 Aug 2012Disappointed that this is yet another DVD release without the classic 60s soundtrack. Instead, it has been replaced with duff 80s rock. This is a great comedy film, but spoiled on this release by the removal of the music which really made the film.
I recommend that you don't hire this copy, but instead search out a version which has retained the original music (something I've not yet been able to do, as information is scarce, but I really thought a rental copy would have had the proper soundtrack).

Surprisingly disappointingBy JafarIqbal (95 reviews) from London , 03 Feb 2012Funny in parts, Belushi is very good, but the rest of the movie is a bit...eh. Hasn't held up over time, sadly
