National Lampoons European cliches

This was on TV and I watched it as I quite enjoyed Animal House and the first Vacation film. This was dissapointing and makes you smile occassionaly, rather than laugh out loud. The humor is based on national cliches: the British are either posh and over appologetic or fat and rude, but all obsessed with sex; the French are rude and obsessed with sex; the Germans are overly hospitable, lederhosen clad, violent and obsessed with sex; the Italians are all Mafia members and obsessed with sex; while Americans are culturally ignorant, unable to drive a manual car and obsessed with sex. So an enlightening observation of cultural difference and our shared obsession with sex, rather than a comedy, hehe ;-)

Not much better than average

Okay you take the National Lampoon's Vacation, which was good not great and reduce the number of laughs. A slightly different plot from the first where we follow the Griswolds on holiday again, only this time in Europe.

Taking in England, France, Germany and Italy it turns into cliche comedy and lacks the wit and imagination of the first Griswold film. Chevy Chase continues to be the main gag man and there's a decent performance by the kid who plays Rusty, however it's Beverley D'Angelo who stands out in this film but nothing award winning.

Punctuated by general slapstick it's mildly amusing but not funny enough to warrant going out of your way.

The 2nd in the Lampoon series sees the Griswald family tour europe after winning on a gameshow.

Chevy and Beverly are in fine form , and boy is she sexy ! not an inappropriate comment as this film is geared towards a fair few sex jokes and themes like one particular scene where Chevy mistakelt gets into bed in the wrong hotel room with an English Woman thinking its his wife , when he learns his mistake he quickly trys to escape

'ok..can you unlock your leg from mine now?'

and as shes trying to have it off with him , Beverly is in the bathtub uthe man in the bathroom is not Clark and is talking away anyway!

Eric Idle as the englishman is hilarious! he gets knocked over by clark in a car and is ever so poluite and apolgetic about it , he then seems to turn up in france and italy too!

very funny.

Gawky Rusty is a great player too , not too sure about the girl who plays Audrey in this one shes a bit too irritating and grumpy looking. Maybe thats why she was chosen but I didnt like her .

The music is great throughout with good songs including Beverlry singing Hey big spender in a towel ! she has a great voice.

Its a tad predictable in some parts but it will still make you laugh .

I did not have high expectations as everyone said this was the weakest of the series but i found it amusing , if you like Chevy or the previous Vaction adventure you really arent going to lose , its stll a good laugh.

ANother good one for the 80's fans I think.
