    [Highly rated reviewer]

The first National Treasure film was a reasonably fun sub-Indiana Jones romp. It far outshone the lacklustre efforts of the Tomb Raider flicks, and had a decent set of puzzles and clues which strung together well. Sadly, this second outing is none of the above! The plot seems more like an excuse for the crew to go on holiday at some nice locations in Europe and US, rather than a logical progression on the trail to find the lost city of gold. Right from the offset the film shows contempt for the intelligence of the audience by having a clue refer to something which wasn't actually in existence until 10 years later. That is only the start of the gaping plot-holes in the film....it gets worse, but let's not dwell. Now I could accept a weak plot in a work of fantasy fiction if the remaining aspects were fun to watch, but sadly only Cage seems to still be channelling the energy of the first film. The rest of the cast are terribly wooden, including Helen Mirren (who can't seem to decide on which accent she should use from one scene to the next). Ed Harris seems to have phoned in his part, and his character goes through a bizarre personality change towards the end of the film which makes no sense at all. Sadly they have recently announced a third film is in the planning stages. This second time around was more than enough for me....I'll be skipping any future entries in the franchise!

Poor acting, unrealistic scenes and a lousy script. At least movies like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Oceans Thirteen had some decent actors, half realistic scripts and a little bit of humour to balance things out.

This movie had nothing down for it.

this film was defo better than the 1st, with more action, and more good effects, but its just that cage is one of the actors you either love or hate, and I detest the man, and if this film had another leading actor I would've probably enjoyd it, but I'm just couldnt cause he was in it

I enjoyed this film very much. It is an easy watching film which keeps your attention on it. If you enjoyed the first one you will also like this one with plenty of action and twists.

  • Worth its weight in gold!

I loved every minute of this new National Treasure adventure and am hoping there will be another one soon. A great family film for anyone of any age (parental guidance still required).

For the history buff or like me, Indiana Jones/mystery/ treasure film fanatic - this film is worth its weight in gold. Nicholas Cage is not loved by everyone and despite other people commenting that he is not believable as a professor, he doesn't really play to role of professor anywhere beyond Indiana Jones. Don't get me wrong - it isn't anywhere close to any of those films, but it is still a great film with secret passages, treasure hunting, historic maps etc and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone!
