Surprisingly funny.

I wasn't expecting much but this is a little gem of a movie, which had me laughing out loud in several parts. The acting from Tambor and Clayburgh is spot on, Bill Duke is great and there are some nice little jazz club scenes.
Following a gay dream Tamor starts the film experimenting with his sexuality, while Clayburgh goes from self-enforced celibacy to finding her confidence in sex shop outfits. If slightly disconcerting in parts - it is a hopeful and overall positive film about what happens after you think you are over ever being in love again.
Ok, so it has a predicable cheesy finish but how they get there is much more interesting than your run of your mill TV movie. Like it says in the blurb its a kind of midlife when harry met sally crossed with with some of the honest humour of Pricilla Queen of the Desert.- Was this review helpful to you?

By Rihrih (2 reviews) , 07 Jan 2012Also a bit skeptical...at first, but the warmth and humor in this movie had me laughing during and after lol The scene with the strap on in the kitchen is HILARIOUS!!! I'm in my 30s and single, and even though it just a movie, its gotten me to realize that I have NO reason to be cynical about love. At ANY age! lol Brilliant!- Was this review helpful to you?

Surprisingly great
By a customer , 14 Dec 2011I just watched this on a whim but it was really good! I laughed a LOT, and I almost never laugh at films. I found it touching, well-acted, realistic... I'd never heard of this film but it seems to be a bit of a lost classic, with a really nice, adult take on love. Its slightly skewed charming perspective reminded me of Say Anything, but set thirty-five years on. Two flaws: the daughter, who is in it only very briefly (right at the start and one other tiny moment in the middle), is extremely irritating. And the ending is kind of cliched/ridiculous. But even so, this film is well worth watching.- Was this review helpful to you?
