An American news reporter in Russia falls in love with a ballerina and marries her, only for him to be deported by the authorities. A middle-aged Clark Gable and the glamorous Gene Tierney are the stars in this love story, which turns into a rescue drama halfway through. Directed by Delmer Daves, it was made by MGM's British arm, which explains the presence of Kenneth More, Bernard Miles and Frederick Valk in the cast. No surprises, but respectably escapist.

I really enjoyed 'Never Let Go.' I was capitivated from the very beginning by its characters and its structure. It is beautifully directed, and lovingly constructed, with very little that I felt was superfluous.
Richard Todd stars as a man whose life crumbles around him when his car is 'stolen to order' by a criminal gang. For reasons that I can't, and won't, go into, he is forced to pursue his car into the depths of gangland Britain. He becomes engaged in a personal battle with Peter Sellers, who is the owner of a garage which is a front for illegal activities. As the film continues, we see that one of the two will have to be destroyed in the struggle. Adam Faith, plays a boy who is drawn into the fray because of his love of Sellers' girlfriend. His battle to decide whose side he is on, is genuinely engrossing.
Elizabeth Sellers (Peter's wife of the time) stars as Todd's put upon wife. She tries to extract her husband from what he has become involved in, and makes us feel pity for her situation. As the climax nears, Sellers becomes a ball of destructive energy and appears capable of anything. You will find yourself watching intently as everyone's future is decided. 'Never Let Go' is impeccably acted, scripted beautifully and only slips up with occasionally stodgy pacing.
Overall a truly interesting film.
i love british films from the 50s and 60s and i thought i knew about most of them but i must have missed this one as it was the first time i had seen it. i love all the cars, buildings, clothes, interiors, furniture, streets, etc. this had all these things in abundance which i really enjoyed. not only that but a good storyline with some great performances - especially from the excellent Mr Sellers. Definitely worth a watch if you like movies from the period.
