New International Track & Field exploits the dual screen capabilities of the DS to its fullest. Speed and stamina events require the player to repeatedly slide the DS Stylus across the power bar to quicken. Additional taps of the action button at key points will bring in jumps or set the angle of throws. Events like cycling require a constant circular motion to be drawn to keep movement and speed up to its highest. Shouting into the microphone can also boost characters at key points. With a variety of gameplay modes for both single and multiple players, there is plenty to keep users entertained from the moment they load it up. Practice single events, leap straight into the career mode or take on up to four friends via the three multiplayer options and you've got a game that will last for months. Hidden characters from classic Konami games can be unlocked, six of these also come with their own Character Challenge, a reworking of one of the existing events to fit the more traditional surroundings of that individual. A Worldwide Rankings system plus Online Tournaments give New International Track & Field impressive online capabilities.

Many thanks to LOVE FILM for saving me money. This is EXACTLY the reason why I decided to start renting games. When I heard this title was coming out, I considered buying it immediately, remembering how much fun the original was. The old button battering, mixed with timing and getting the right angle was endless fun. This game.....is not!!! Rubbing the DS pen from side to side as fast as you can, in a manner which makes you think you will soon wear a hole in the screen, is not fun. Almost impossible events, like the Triple Jump, are not fun. I tried, and I fully appreciate that you don't want everything to be too easy too quick, but it never became fun trying. I kept this for 3 days, but that is largely down to it arriving before the weekend! Avoid.
