Starts Out Great Gets Even Better
By a customer , 12 Feb 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
If you've ever liked playing a JRPG, and you've ever liked any Studio Ghibli films, you simply must play this game. It's amazingly polished, has a glorious soundtrack, beautiful graphics and charming characters. There is also a very quirky humour to the game - the English translation / localisation is handled really well and doesn't feel like it was ever written in a different language to begin with, and I'm saying this as someone who usually prefers the original soundtrack with subtitles when watching movies. As great as the game is from the beginning it really is worth playing on past the early hours of gameplay that lead you through the game's structures and mechanics, as it gets better and better as you go along. I'm near the end of the main storyline now after about 40 hours' playing, but there are numerous things to do after that. It really is a game that has attention to detail in every respect, and constantly pleases, surprises and delights in equal measure.- Was this review helpful to you?

(13)Great visuals but linear story lets it down
By s1mple (3 reviews) from Basingstoke , 23 May 2013The game looks amazing however the story is very linear the combat is well done and fun, what let it down for me was the simplicity of the story and the repetitive side quests. the visuals are stunning lots of creativity it feels at times like its aimed at a child although i feel its suitable for any age overall it was a mediocre game with the potential to have been a lot more.- Was this review helpful to you?

One of the best games I've played
By NeilSBUK (87 reviews) from Epsom , 19 May 2013[Highly rated reviewer]
This game starts out great, and keeps you hooked right through to the end. Even then I struggled to put it down, despite there being little to do other than play the gambling games at the casino. My only complaint is that the game rewards you for grinding, as taking on some enemies can be very tough unless you spend time levelling up on the lower level enemies first. Even this was forgivable because I had such a great time following the story and completing tasks. Battles can be a bit repetitive and some bosses can be irritating, but most challenges can be overcome by levelling up characters and keeping health and magic provisions well stocked. There is a lot of content here, probably upwards of 50 hours (I lost track of time), so it is well worth purchasing, but it's probably not a game that you will play through more than once.- Was this review helpful to you?

Final Fantasy VII revisited
By amazing79 (7 reviews) , 29 Apr 2013Wow what an amazing game. Brings back happy memories of playing FFVII. Has an original storyline though with an amazing finish and good translation. Did not want the game to end and almost managed 100% completion in about 80 hours. Be losing out not to play this title! Takes about 10 hours to fully immerse yourself in the game but only gets better and better.- Was this review helpful to you?

Best RPG I have played in the last decade.
By Ryan2804 (4 reviews) , 24 Apr 20135 stars doesn't do this game justice. It is a fantastic experience that will leave you wanting more when you have finished. A great battle system that is rather similar to that of Pokémon, an amazing and emotional story, and an amazing fantasy world to explore it in. The game has a very slow start (the first 3-5 hours WILL be a hand holding experience where the game will constantly stop and tell you what to do, some of it repeating stuff it has already told you, and some of it anyone could easily figure out without the game telling them) but after that, you can expect at least 40 hours of unforgettable fun. However, if you are not a fan of the classic J-RPG, I suggest you steer clear. This is not the sort of game you can just pick up, play briefly then come back to later, the story will keep you hooked and you won't want to stop playing. Ni No Kuni is the only game I have played this generation that I can call a great game, and I hope it can establish itself as a classic along with the older Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest and Chrono games.- Was this review helpful to you?

I love Studio ghibli but this game is not fun.
By colourcomet (2 reviews) , 18 Apr 2013I've played JRPGs before, I loved Final Fantasy 7/8/9 whilst growing up, but playing through FF13 a couple of years ago felt like a huge waste of 40 hours due to the dull, linear gameplay. I got 5 hours through this and felt it would probably be a similar experience. I loved the visuals and animations, I also loved the music by Joe Hisaishi, but the game so far has consisted of reading text, running around very small areas, doing way too many tutorials and opening chests (none of which are particularly fun). The battles are ok, but compared to western games with RPG/narrative elements (Skyrim/Fallout3/Far Cry 3/Red dead) it just feels like a long, repetitive grind. You never really feel like you have any control over the characters or events of the story. Also, the inconsistent voice acting (sometimes audible dialogue, sometimes blip sounds) really annoys me for some reason. I can't believe it's rated so highly everywhere. Did I give up too soon?- Was this review helpful to you?
