Dassin treats NIGHT AND THE CITY’s central London locations as strange exotic places. As the movie .. Read more

      So nearly great...

For the first 80 minutes or so this is classic if not THE classic film noir- about a dreamer in the London post war criminal underground who still fancies his ... read more »

      yanks in London

An enjoyable crime thriller of double cross and hidden agendas.

      This is not America

A pretty dire British attempt at recreating a gritty American-style gangster film noire. Even setting it in 'racy' London does not lend credibility to ... read more »

      Widmark

Richard Widmark was mega scary and crazed in this film which gripped from the word go. What a seedy place London seemed back then.

      Night and the City

Richard Widmark out of his usual Western attire to grace the screen as a desperate post war chancer. I liked this film very much

      Of its time

I thought this was a very good film, not being one to watch black and white stuff much.

      A bit disappointing.

Having seen part of this thriller on Sky, I was anticipation a good film - not so. This was 'ham' acted and overdrawn - and depressing to boot!
