They're coming for you, Barbara...

This is an essential piece of Cinema. The film that coined the expression 'Video Nasty'. Ok, so it looks a bit dated now, the acting's a bit hammy, but it was made in 196bloody8! Check out other horror films of this era and you'll see how graphic and controversal this film was. This film is as influential to modern horror films as the beatles are to modern pop music. And it's sequels only got better..- Was this review helpful to you?

By TezzaBJ (54 reviews) , 20 Feb 2013Set the standard by which all future zombie movies would be judged by. And still kicks most of them in they're zombie butt. You can make a horror film with some style and this (and Dawn and Day of the Dead) are it.- Was this review helpful to you?

By AxeAttack (5 reviews) , 23 Aug 2012The one that started it all. Creepier in black and white than the technicolour gore-fests that followed it. Never bettered!- Was this review helpful to you?

Mum always said Don't open the door to strangers
By LeonHarper (61 reviews) from At the movies , 05 Jan 2012Cult Classic Night of the Living Dead is a gem of the horror genre. This unpretentious low-budget George A Romeros first feature of the saga opened the door for mainstream success to the zombies.
The film looks amateurish particularly with regard to the performance of the cast and vast sections of the script however there are a few particularities in this film which make it highly remarkable in the context of horror movies for every enthusiast of the genre.
First of all Night of the Living Dead greatly influenced future directors and movies. George A Romero kept the legend alive through a string of sequels with zombies at their heart.
Secondly, the casting of a black actor in the leading role is an unusual move in the 60s conservative America.
Finally, the last sequence is a powerful statement particularly in the context of racial tensions and the African-American Civil Rights Movement prevalent in the United States at the time.
All in all, Night of the Living Dead is a piece of celluloid history and an obliged visit for cinema fans. No need to bury your head under the blanket though.- Was this review helpful to you?
