Italy's Mozart
By Robert Smith from Ashby de la Zouch , 24 Oct 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
I decided to try this dvd on the
previous review. I was delighted with
the music, which was very much in the
style of Mozart, and indeed I would
have thought it was composed by Mozart. With Cecilia Bartoli as
Nina, and Laszlo Polgar as her dad,
the singing was first rate. Laszlo
Polgar is an excellent bass, and
I look at the cast of every opera
to see if he is included. I must
say that I am a little fed up with
hearing the three tenors, and would
appreciate having three basses on
recordings.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)Interesting and essential for fans of Bartoli and especially Kaufmann
By DeryckB (7 reviews) , 05 Jul 2011I'm a great fan of both Cecilia Bartoli and Jonas Kaufmann. This is essential viewing for fans of the latter as it shows him performing at an earliesh stage of his career. The performances are fine and the music is also delightful. The form of the opera is interesting, but unusual. The music is interspersed with a great deal of spoken dialogue. A kind of opera buffo in opera seria mode. The story is also rather impausible.- Was this review helpful to you?

A paradox
By a customer from Manchester South , 03 Feb 2005This seemed to be a very humdrum offering which didn't seem to be worth the effort of watching. I left it running because I had nothing better to do at the time and soon I began to realise I was enjoying it. As I say, the story was commonplace, but the music, the singing and presentation, had a sort of magnetic attraction that had me enthralled. I watched it again the next night before sending it back and was delighted by all the nuances I discovered the second time round.- Was this review helpful to you?
