Rich, Vibrant and FunBy a customer from Bangor , 29 Oct 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]If you've enjoyed the books, you should not be disappointed by this film. If anything I'd say I enjoyed it a little more. One is never sure reading a book about Africans written by a white Scotsman. Although this is directed by a white Englishman (one of Antony Minghella's very last films before his death), the colour and richness of African life is captured in a way rarely seen on-screen. It was filmed on location in Botswana, the music and graphics are African, and there isn't a white person in sight! The cast are wonderful, and the adaptation stays close to the original (albeit with the addition of an effeminate hairdresser character I don't recall from the book). Highly enjoyable, and at times very funny.
There are no extra features included on the DVD.

Missing homeBy a customer from London , 02 Apr 2009This fim made me remember all of the best qualities of the people of Africa namely the sense of community, laid back atmosphere and ready-to-laugh cultre. It really lifted my spirits and took me back to my childhood days in South Africa which in some ways is not so different to Botswana. I was impressed with the accents of the actors and felt that the book was translated into film with integrity. I can't wait to see all the rest of Ma Ramotswe's adventures on fim!
very poor filmBy a customer from Bicester,England , 01 Apr 2009This film was so badly dubbed that it was impossible to watch and enjoy. We turned it off within half an hour. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
No1...definitly if you enjoyed the bookBy a customer from London , 01 Apr 2009I am a great fan of the book..always impatient to read the new adventures of those lovely characters. With the movie, the atmosphere is more reflected with the landscapes...really nice...was just sad at the end of the movie...too short!!!I really wish there will be a sequel...and also looking forward reading the next book!!!

like a good cup of teaBy EmilieGre (53 reviews) from Greenhithe , 27 Mar 2009I enjoyed this movie a lot and came out of it with a sense of peace and joy. All it not rosy and perfect in Africa (and we touch on that with one of the stories) but this shows the support in the community and Africa as we would like it to be.
I cannot wait to see more of it
