Was really expecting something special, even though, let's face it, the Coen's can at times be overrated.
Far too slow, not that gripping, with a pointless ending.Don't bother.
hot d&mn!
I have not been on the edge of my seat like that since I saw children of men...
this film is nailbitin, teethgrindin, seat grippin, high wire, high tension entertainment!
all is forgiven after the horrible shameathon that was the ladykillers, Chr!st that film sucked. it was like finding footage of the love of your life having physical relations with a dog on the internet
I SEEN IT! IVE SEEN IT!
HOW COULD YOU THINK I WOULD NOT SEE IT!
HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO YOURSELF!
HOW COULD DO DO THAT TO US!
but lets not brood on that fact now.
The past is the past, and the cohen brothers are redeemed like freshly baptised tax collectors.
Because this is millers crossing / fargo good
yes sir... a proper cohen brothers film.
(actually it has a healthy whack of raising Arizona in the mix too
with a similarly dark, implacable, indestructible force of nature super villain, heh he even croaks cute animals like his demonic motorcycle riding predecessor too).
The plotting and dialogue is more sparse than the aforementioned crime flicks, as it is effectively a chase movie, actually a chase movie with overtones of heavily armed stalk and slash
Javier Bardem has some seriously evil toys to dispatch people with (his pimped up shotgun makes a fully awesome noise).
It is also an uncompromising movie that is not scared to bust some unexpected plot moves that may disgruntle main stream audiences. (my colleagues didnt like the ending)
Its less knowingly kooky than their earlier efforts, but more human (though tommy lee jones and josh brolin are probably largely responsible for that
and yes that is her out of trainspotting), and one forgets from time to time how good they are at making things look pretty, this is a thing of desolate beauty.
There are a lot of good things rolling out of the desert film wise at the moment
Anyways this was supposed to be a capsule review and i am starting to go on a bit
no country for old men is very good.
if you have not seen it get on with it.
