A major disappointment
By mammothd (3 reviews) from barnet , 21 Jan 2008[Highly rated reviewer]
Was really expecting something special, even though, let's face it, the Coen's can at times be overrated.
Far too slow, not that gripping, with a pointless ending.Don't bother.- Was this review helpful to you?

(1742)A thinking action movie
By a customer , 19 Apr 2013This is a great film which is greatly enhanced by avoiding the stock' die hard' etc ending. If you only want a bang bang action film avoid this anyone who likes movies that actually make you think this is for you- Was this review helpful to you?

could've been great but only good
By rampage31 (18 reviews) from Lochgelly , 18 Apr 2013Javier bardem played 1 creepy physcopath and was the highlight of the film, brolin was good also but why was tommy l jones even in it? he seemed like a spare part with pointless scenes, overall loved it apart from last 30 mins when it gets lazy and goes belly up, would have been in my all time top10 if the last 30 mins didn't undo all the great suspense, tension and great storyline of the 1st hour and half, still good film and worth watching bardem play a blinder..- Was this review helpful to you?

Mystified by bad ratings?!
By hispanista (2 reviews) , 01 Apr 2013This is so great! Please reconsider watching this film, as you will be thankful to have a cinematic experience that stays with you. I watched this a while ago (was prompted to write a review by the website), but it has stayed with me as even to a massive cinephile like myself, as I'm sure every other subscriber to this service is, this film manages to surprise you. Javier Bardem is the consummate psychopath! There is the perfect level of plausible, creepy science fiction in the film! And most outstandingly, the colouring, the imagery, the framing of the screen is captivating. Sorry I can't add more, but this is a great film!- Was this review helpful to you?

Why the negative reviews?
By AlexBaird27 (4 reviews) , 30 Mar 2013Don't understand all the negative reviews at all, this is fantastic until the last five minutes where the ending is anticlimactic. However, the previous two hours are superb, full of suspense and brilliant performances from the whole cast, especially Javier Bardem. One of the Coens' best.- Was this review helpful to you?

A sad day when you fall asleep in the cinema
By NicoVY (2 reviews) , 22 Mar 2013I watched this long film waiting for some excitement to come, but the pace was really just too slow for me. Everytime there seemed like something was happening, like the story was picking up it was slowed right back down again. I watched this film with 7 friends and every single one of us fell asleep!! I awoke to a very abrupt and strange ending. I say if you like extremely long films which keep you anticipating but never deliver, then go for it! Definitely one I will not recommend to friends - EVER!- Was this review helpful to you?
