Richard Gere here stars to real effect in the film that prompted critics to note how much greyer, older and better he was. There's a lot to age him in this swamp-land thriller, in which he plays a Chicago cop seeking vengeance in New Orleans following the death of his partner. Jeroen Krabbe is his crimelord target and Kim Basinger is the reluctant gangster's moll, with whom Gere takes off into the Louisiana bayous for the rousing action finale. "...NO MERCY is a passionate film noir that depends heavily upon [Gere] to give it credence, and [he] delivers..."
Damned good actioner, not much of a story but well acted by the principals. And as usual Kim Basinger was gorgeous
This was definitely a disappointing movie. Apart from Richard Gere's performance, there is not much to it. No credible storyline, dull action sequence, predictable plot, superficial characters, and most disappointing of all: Kim Basinger has no expression whatsoever, and the only thing she does throughout is scream and look surprised when a gangster fires at her. My advice: find something else to watch.

"...Carabatsos shows a knack for going for the unobnoxious and building to exciting climaxes..."
Fashionable violence, slick production, nothing new.
