thats the beauty of this film its packed with tension audie murphy rides into town with a gun and a bullett the town folk have all got something to hide, i read an earlier review saying this film was boring well all i can say is that the person couldnt understand what this film is about it's packed with tension everyone thinking this hired gun is out to get them because everyone has a consience it was designed to cause an impact on people imagine a stranger coming to your town a fast gun and youve got a past how would you react?

  • Comes a stranger

    Rated - 3.0 stars

With a 'Shane'-influenced opening and a potentially interesting storyline, this oater has slightly more pretensions than the usual offering- to say nothing of the off-beat casting of Audie Murphy as a hired killer with a philosophical bent, a role in which he does not look entirely comfortable. The enigmatic presence of the deadly stranger leads to the moral disintegration of the township, a study which in other hands might have proved as rivetting as 'High Noon', - but not here. Jack Arnold's direction in CinemaScope is competent but no more, and is not helped by the anodyne presence of Universal contract players Charles Drake and Joan Evans in the other lead roles.
