Unselfconsciously corny I found myself laughing perhaps in the wrong places whilst watching this 80’s flick. We've seen it all before, but this film oozes charm and great sparkle - this is partly due to the fact that it is filmed on location in San Francisco, so all the sets are real and top quality film stock was used in the cameras. Each frame is so clear that the whole film could have been filmed last week on digi-cam.

The other main reason this film sparkles is due to the two central performances of Demi Moore and John Cryer. Moore has a peculiar beauty, which is quite compelling - she's not blonde, she's not perky and she's not Meg Ryan.

Cryer is much better than he was in Pink, playing the neurotic teenage photographer who plans on going to Mee-Lan (it is worth renting this DVD just to hear Moore and Cryer say Mee-lan instead of Milan) to start his career. He is goofy and blushes in the right places and unexpectedly there is a bizarre chemistry between Moore and Cryer despite the age difference. He photographs her and spends his savings trying to promote her image around the Streets of San Francisco.

If you are at all nostalgic about the 1980's rent this now! Both the corny dialogue and the overall warmth and exuberance of the storyline will leave you with a wonderful afterglow.
