    [Highly rated reviewer]

This is a truly outstanding anthology from a true pioneer of cinema. I mean that: I'm hard pressed to think of another DVD title that has been so professionally and elegantly assembled. And McLaren's from sunny Stirling!

It features everything that McLaren ever did spread lovingly over seven discs, all of them remastered and looking and sounding beautiful. The menus are easy to use and comprehensive; individual films are accompanied by info and (where applicable) audio excerpts from radio interviews with McLaren. The presentation, in short, is exceptional.

And the films/ shorts themselves are fascinating to watch- no matter what the subject matter. Classics like 'Neighbours' are techincal marvels, enjoyable to watch (I showed it to kids at school and they loved it- taking the same delight they would from a timeless Tom and Jerry or Road Runner cartoon) and have a serious message. Even the 'info films' done for British Gas are fascinating and enjoybale to watch! But above all, the true beauty of this collection lies in seeing Mclaren's Art (and this is Art in the true sense of the word) grow and expand as he begins to experiment more and more and push the boundaries of animation, sound and film in general.

If you are interested in the history of cinema/ animation/ audio and the individuals who have have helped to shape these fields, this DVD is for you. You will learn about a truly remarkable individual, as well as be entertained for hours.
