A bit of the old is still good
By stofjas from London , 19 Jun 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
It is funny that a lot of the old tv series have dated so much over the last few years. Look at Starsky and Hutch now and you realise that it is simply pathetic.
But when you look at NE you realise that this is not true for all the tv series on dvd. This is a classic. The humour is still funny and the insights into human nature is as sharp as always.
The biggest dissapointment is that this DVD does not include more of the shows but shows only a few of the best episodes. I now only need to see more.- Was this review helpful to you?

(31)Funny, affectionate and weird all at once
By Pilgrim05 (28 reviews) from Hebden Bridge , 31 May 2011I discovered this series a couple of years ago, and was so disappointed that I'd not come across it before.
It's a funny, affectionate view of some rather odd people out in the sticks of Alaska. Their stories are told tenderly and amusingly, sometimes quite poignantly, too. You get to really care about theses people, and even over the many series that stays true. Highly recommended- Was this review helpful to you?

A quirky drama, that is still entertaining today
By Zanthras (11 reviews) , 01 May 2011This series was a brilliant, entertaining, quirky drama that still holds up today, with a great cast and wonderful scripts. It is worth watching the entire series, just so you can watch one of the weirdest ends to a television series ever. The best thing about renting on DVD is that I do not have to wait up until 1am so I can watch each episode on S4C, as I did when it originally aired back in the 90's.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very Good Show
By a customer from Cardiff , 27 Sep 2009When I first happened upon this show on American TV, I was not sure I liked it...then it seemed a little too much what LA or NY people thought rural life and people were like (or would be like in their imagination of utopia).
Now seeing it later (helps to see the episodes in order, to learn about the characters), I think it is a charming and very good show. The people are very interesting.
It does have some obvious inaccuracies (e.g. ruddy turnstones would not mate up in tall pine trees in the forest...think of the name...'turnstone'...they are wading birds. Likewise they point to what are obviously pine trees in the middle of the forest and call them 'red willows'), but they are not too objectionable, and the first year, at least is very entertaiining and interesting.- Was this review helpful to you?
