This is classic!!! I was a kid when this was first aired and I remember a lot of the sketches from those times when the whole family would watch. I have seen some reviews that claim the DVD is too 'topical'. 80% of the sketches are just pure British comic genius and require no particular era, but then there are a few jokes and references that refer to politicians and celebrities that aren't around anymore. For those that find this 'topical', I suggest you use your imagination... this stuff is hilarious! If you were born before 1973, I don't think you'll be too confused. You'll love Gerald the talking Gorilla as well as the stereo salesmen. If you like fast-wit-Brit-com (gulp), then place this DVD on your list. You won't be disappointed. It's 400% better than any 'new' comedy that's been on the TV here in the UK in the past 5 years. At least, you will learn what makes the SCOTLAND YARD sign turn around and also what goes on during the night shift at BBC Television Centre.... 5 STAR!
I had forgotten just how funny "Not the Nine o clock News" was all those years ago. Good also to see the team at the beginnings of their careers.
If you can remember the Thatcher / Reagan years then you have to sit down to watch this one if only for the bits of newsreel film. If you don't, but you are a Rowan Atkinson or Smith & Jones fan then you'll love it.
Highly recommended.
