A very good gem that gets us away from New York and brings zest to the romantic comedy genre
By roncoach (365 reviews) from suffolk , 27 Oct 2011[Highly rated reviewer]
Where is Cary Grant and Doris Day ? Not needed. Hugh Grant and the wonderful Julia Roberts do it better.
This is a little gem of a film which this genre keeps coming up with , whether in the 1930s or in the 21st century.
It's delightful, touching, funny, amusing.....and plain enjoyable.
Hugh Grant can make some hopeless films ( unlike Julia !) but he shows here what he can do when he is a bit more discerning about the roles he chooses.
This is a delightful film, which brings London into our homes--------the 'feel' of the place permeates the film; and it shows how good it is compared to New York ( the normal setting for most films ??). No wonder so many Americans decide to settle in Britain once they have visited.
Go on, take a chance and watch it if you haven't already done so-------just when you think every bit of good cinema has been squeezed out of the romantic comedy genre......along comes a 'Notting Hill'. Recommended.- Was this review helpful to you?

a sweet romantic film...
By a customer from leeds, UK , 04 Jan 2006Hugh Grunt and Julia Roberts proved their skills again!!! the whole movie is spun wonderfully around emotions regardless of the worldly matters....the supporting actors and the actresses are worth praising. The comedy is appropriate and is a must see movie.- Was this review helpful to you?

Notting Hill (1999)
By a customer from London , 19 Dec 2005This is not a bad film. Still think it was over hyped at the time of its release, but there are some memorable moments.- Was this review helpful to you?

Very amusing
By a customer from Manchester UK , 05 Nov 2005If you like romantic comedies, this will please you. Light-hearted, not quite predictable, well-acted (though Hugh Grant's role is entirely typical), funny with lots of irony though not side-splitting, all the characters demand some sympathy, I wanted to watch it again as soon as I had finished it. Not absolutely top-notch, but really good entertainment if you don't want something intellectually demanding.- Was this review helpful to you?
