Arresting visuals and a kinky sense of the absurd set apart this acerbic take on the breakdown of communication in the modern world. But for all its narrative audacity and directorial dexterity, Jean-Pierre Limosin's comedy treats its characters like cyphers and, thus, they fail to elicit our sympathy. Amnesiac Eduardo Noriega's romance with secretary Anna Mouglalis is essentially sweet, particularly in comparison with his exploitative relationship with boss Nathalie Richard. But Limosin is more concerned with their eccentric couplings than the realities of Noriega's past and the intrinsic part memory plays in personality. Slick and quirky, but also self-satisfied and superficial.
