  • Stylish Film Noir - Suffers from Low Budget

    Rated - 3.0 stars

    [Highly rated reviewer]

Steve Martin's character in Novocaine has a good life. A successful dentist, he is engaged to wed his stunning helper. However, things start to go wrong when he falls in love with a patient and his life begins to spin out of control.

Set in present day LA this thiller-cum-noir-cum-comedy aims to confuse and entertain the watcher. The twists and turns of the plot work well as we see Steve Martin's character being set up for murder.

The films low point comes at the end where the imagination of the film maker seems to run out. Also the lack of budget gives the film a TV Movie feel that perhaps better direction could have avoided.

Saying that, this film is definately worth a watch if you are a movie buff who likes to watch every film made. If not films such as Donnie Darko have the same dark feel but are better films.

  • Not that good

    Rated - 2.0 stars

It had some okay moments, but in the end I couldn't be bothered to finishing watching it. I generally like Steve Martin and Helena Bonham Carter, but this wasn't worth the bother.

  • Not a comedy

Although this stars Steve Martin it is not a comedy by no means,it is a drama.

Steve Martin is a dentist that treats a patient who is a drug addict. He falls for her, lies to his fiance and then the scenario gets murderously serious.

    Good stuff and worth watching.

Very, very disappointed in this film.

The Image of a Steve Martin film is usually one of being funny and very entertaining, this was neither. The description of the film hides the sexual content, Steve Martin fans will be very disapoointed - don't watch it.

    FANTASTIC!!!!

Well worth watching, a dark and quite obtuse comedy, Steve Martin really is that good!
