Demi Moore co-produced this female version of Stand by Me, which follows four young girls (Gaby Hoffmann, Christina Ricci, Thora Birch, Ashleigh Aston Moore) in 1970 as they attempt to solve the mystery of the death of a local boy. It's a simple, small-town story, bookended by the present-day revelations of the girls, now grown up into Moore, Melanie Griffith, Rita Wilson (Mrs Tom Hanks) and Rosie O'Donnell. Lesli Linka Glatter (a former TV director on series such as er, Twin Peaks and NYPD Blue) delivers a sweet, unassuming film that should strike a chord with anyone who believes that life was better in the seventies. Fans of Brendan Fraser should keep an eye out for his brief, uncredited performance as a Vietnam veteran.

Routine coming-of-age drama, given an overtly sentimental and nostalgic treatment.

This gives them the chance to reminisce about the summer of 1970, a time when they first experienced puppy love, shared girlish secrets, discussed sex and boys, battled bullies, and attempted to solve a murder mystery. I used to love this film when I was younger, and hadnt seen it for years until recently. On reflection, its probably not such a great movie, but I now enjoy watching it because I remember how much I liked it. The soundtrack is nice and its sort of the female equivalent of Stand By Me, only not as good.
I watched this film years ago with my daughter she is now 18 and could remember it like yesterday. It made a big impression on her. It was as good watching it this time as the last time. They choose the younger girls well to represent the woman, really well acted parts. Great film for Nan, Mum and daughter of all ages You must WATCH IT.
I loved this film. It made me cry. A moving film. Worth watching on a Sunday afternoon after a night out on Saturday. Wind down

Soppy, but I loved it. Wish Brendan Fraser had been it for longer! A good old fashioned chick flick.

Wow, I've loved this film for soooo long. I think all of us girls can relate to at least one of the characters in this fab movie.
An all time girlie film!!!
I love this movie.
It is one of my favourites!! The story is lovely.
I definately recommend watching it if you like a good girlie movie.
This film was quite good and funny in places, it's more of a girly stand by me, girls rather than boys remembering their early days and one great summer then re-uniting years later. Good cast with Demi Moore, Christina Ricci and Rosie O Donnell. Not bad but if you fancy this in a more boyish/lads version then just watch stand by me.
Already well described in the reviews, a nice easy going film to relax in front of. It was good to be taken back to the things that children think and do when they are 12! Some great music in the soundtrack - took me back to my childhood too!
