Writer/director Jonathan Lynn, one half of the team behind the scorching wit of Yes, Minister, has been swimming rather more lazily in the mainstream in recent years. Here, by trying to squeeze a whole film from the single joke of Robbie Coltrane and Eric Idle decked out as nuns, he was in danger of veering towards a comic dud. Yet there is a natural spark between the two performers that saves many a scene and, when the genial proceedings are not burdened by the full weight of cliché, they do begin to catch fire. Lynn is far too good for the inane car chases and tee-hee clutter of this innocently smutty farce, but his talent does occasionally shine through.
"...There are no whoopee cushions in NUNS ON THE RUN, but there are the next best things for a movie: [Idle and Coltrane]....Very funny..."
This is a film for any one who has a senesce of humour a real fun for all kind of film
