This was a brilliant idea done badly. Rene Zellweger comes across as an actress rather than a character in this film...she just doesn't seem to fit.
The film could have hung together much better if directed differently (e.g. Cohen Bro's). As it is the film is a series of quirky characters and amusing situations that don't engage.
