Marvellous, Different and Hilarious

Set during the Great Depression, this movie follows three convicts as they escape from prison and set about trying to find buried treasure. The three characters encounter a variety of adventures along the way and their convincing stupidity makes it all the more funny. There is a whole plethora of gospel songs throughout which make you feel really good and make you want to buy the soundtrack. This movie is far different to anything else you might find and I thoroughly recommend it if you want a break from the usual movies available out there.- Was this review helpful to you?

I really wanted to like this film. I expected a lot from a film by the Coen brothers, with Holly Hunter, John Turturro and John Goodman in it. But I have to say that if it wasn't for the wonderful music in this film I would have turned it off. What happened to the quirky humour? It tried to be there, but characters repeating certain phrases every so often is merely a verbal tic. I wanted deep but light-hearted, unfortunately I got shallow and empty (and slightly boring). My 2 and a half stars is generous. And it really would have been 1 star but for the music ... oh, yes, and for the truly beautiful cinematography, and maybe for Holly Hunter's hat- Was this review helpful to you?

O Dear, Where Art Thou Interest?!

Found it very hard to understand the strong accents through the movie which perhaps made the film harder to enjoy and less understandable. There ended up being entire conversations that you had no idea what anyone was saying.
George Clooney made an effort to improve the film but the plot and direction unfortunately didnt not allow him the ability to make this worth watching.
Was very close to giving up half way through and stop watching to be honest!- Was this review helpful to you?

I Like This Film A Lot
By a customer , 13 Jul 2012I can't but help like this film. In fact it ranks in my top five. It rolls around dropping out irrelevance that return with more significance later in the film. The latter stages bring tears of relief and joy to the hardest of viewers. The characters are real, albeit over the top, but always real. You will know at least one of the characters in this this film, will relate and probably like them. Each step of the film is both intelligent and interesting. Say hello to my little.......... Walther PPK........
By Fishy182 (29 reviews) from Uxbridge , 01 May 2012Set in the 1930's deep south, this film naturally has an awesome soundtrack and that alone is reason to watch it.
However you'll soon find yourself dragged into a funny, some what bonkers take on 'The Odyssey' by Homer.
Well I say 'take', it references the story more than it retells it.
Its the tale of Everret (Clooney) and his two dimwitted buddies that break free from the chain gang.
Clooney is inspiring here, he plays the part with well with conviction all be it a little over the top in parts.
But it is not his film alone as both, John Turturro & Tim Blake Nelson perform, in parts, better!
The rest of the cast including, John Goodman are all superb.
The setting is great. The sets and costumes all fit the scene wonderfully. Even if there are a few bloopers, which only add to the already shinning charm of the film.
As mentioned before the soundtrack is great, and the Coen brother's do an excellent job mixing it all in to, what is essentially, a feel good, crazy comedy.
It's by no means their best, (My personal favorite is Fargo) but it is a wonderful film, and one that kick started my adoration of Joel & Ethan's films.- Was this review helpful to you?

Dreadful waste of time
