Im 20 years too old to be enjoying this breathtakingly silly, empty and wonderful show, but judging by the reactions of other viewers no less wrinkly than me, I'm definitely not alone!
A sexy drama with hot boys and even hotter storylines
At 32 I probably shouldn't even be watching this stuff. I think it's annoying fluff, *addictive* annoying fluff, which makes it even more annoying. Can't believe I fancy a 17-year-old boy. Gross.
The story of a troubled teenager being 'rescued' into American High Society is not new but well done. The writing is stronger than many other US drama series and I particularly liked the dual focus on both the teenage and the parent generations. The acting is generally strong and this being a DVD version without annoying commercial breaks I found myself more than once watching 'just a little bit more' to see where things were going.
However, like many dramas of this type there is a problem with keeping up the intitial dramatic tension. The main conflicts are played out in the first few episodes and I found that things became rather predictable in a sort of 'soap opera way' as time went on. The bottom line is that I have enjoyed watching this but can't really see myself renting Series 2...
One final comment - as a 36 year old parent of two teenagers I have regained some street credit by watching this so maybe there is an excuse for Series 2 after all...
