A great film starring the original rat pack
By lee burnell from Solihull , 01 Sep 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
A great film starring the original rat pack in all there glory, expect a little more background on the characters in this version, also expect a bit of singing from Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jnr and some humorous moments along the way from the other cast members. The plot of the film differs somewhat from the George Clooney production, if anything the plot in the George Clooney version is watered down by comparison and if you enjoyed the latest version then you might enjoy this version too because it certainly has more substance as far as the storyline goes although it would be fair to say that the production is not as slick as the George Clooney production but it was 1960 when this version was produced and that?s reflected in the production.- Was this review helpful to you?

(39)Clunky yet stylish
By Bassman71 (630 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 29 Dec 2011Ex-Airforce buddies plan Casino heist in Las Vegas on New Years Eve, planned in fine detail, goes smoothly, ex-gangster gets involved, pandemonium.
Clunky yet stylish heist movie featuring the Rat-Pack in their prime and more or less playing themselves which is a good and bad.
The acting isnt great but its the chemistry between them that makes it work and a lot of the dialogue seems natural although a little clumsy at times.
Music throughout is fantastic with a mix of jazz and swing and Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Junior performing.- Was this review helpful to you?

Less cool, more acting please.
By DarrylB (28 reviews) , 05 Dec 2011I'm too young to have seen this the first time around (39!) so was comparing it to the remake with Gorgeous George et al.
I'm sure they looked cool in their day, with their matching neat suits, slick hairdos, drinking Scotch and smoking cigarettes, but nothing really swings. A lot of big 'names' of the time, but not many actors unfortunately. Even the supporting performances make Escape to Victory's cast look like Oscar-nominee material.
Watch it if you feel the need to get perspective on the remakes, but for me I could probably have lived without bothering to rent this one. This hasn't got the pace or fun of the new Ocean's Eleven - it just plods along until it finally gets to the point.
A bit like Ocean's Twelve.- Was this review helpful to you?

dull dull dull
By a customer from Woking , 31 Jul 2007This was very disappointing. I am a fan of Sinatra/Davies/Martin et al but this film is just too slow. It is boring, dated and sexist! It has been a while since I saw a female charcater patted on the backside and told to 'run along dear' in a film!! (thankfully). Leave this one in the archive....- Was this review helpful to you?
