George Clooney and his A-list pals have fun in the Las Vegas sun in this thoroughly enjoyable caper from director Steven Soderbergh. In a loose remake of the 1960 Rat Pack venture of the same name, Clooney comfortably steps into Frank Sinatra's shoes as Danny Ocean, who is fresh out of jail but still sets about putting together an audacious heist with the help of a ten-man crew. His star cronies include Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Carl Reiner and Don Cheadle, who affects the worst cockney accent you've ever heard. The plan is to hit the vault containing the take from three of the biggest casinos in Vegas, all of which belong to Terry Benedict (Andy Garcia), the guy who just happens to be dating Ocean's ex-wife Tess (Julia Roberts). This is one of those films that's a joy from start to finish, but doesn't strain the brain for a second. Thankfully, the mechanics of the heist take second place to the glorious interplay of a stellar cast that is clearly having a ball revelling in the sharp, quick-fire dialogue.

  • A remake as self-indulgent as the original, though slightly more fun; a little more wit, and less striving to seem cool, would have been welcome.

    Ocean of froth

Probably not a lot of point in criticising this one, but I found it a lukewarm version of "Mission Impossible", with some very annoying macho characters.

Maybe Sinatra and his boozy, misogynistic rat pack companions were the height of cool when the original was made over 50 years ago, but times have (thankfully) changed.

Julia Roberts - referred to at one point as another character's "worldly goods" or some such - cannot alone compensate for the bloke-ish posturing of the over-rated Brad Pitt.

And what's more, it's really boring.

    Think I'll give Ocean's 12 a miss.

    superb..................

this film is superb... George Clooney is Danny Ocean, an ex -convict who was jailed on fraud charges.

He is now released from Prison, and decides to rob three of Las Vegas's largest and wealthiest casinos, the Bellagio, the Mirage and the MGM Grand, owned by Terry Benedict played by Andy Garcia, who now has a relationship with Ocean's ex-wife Tess, played by Julia Roberts.

With the help of his old friend Rusty Ryan, played by Brad Pitt, Danny gathers together a crew of 11 people, to help him rob in one night all three casinos, a plan never accomplished by any man.

    the crew are:

    1) Frank Catton (Bernie Mac),

    2) Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt),

    3) Reuben Tishkoff (Elliott Gould), inventor of the casino security systems and huge enemy of Terry Benedict,

    4) Virgil Malloy (Casey Affleck)

    5) Turk Malloy (Scott Caan), twin brothers,

    6) Livingston Dell (Eddie Jemison), electronics expert and currently working for the FBI,

    7) Basher Tarr (Don Cheadle), explotions - munitions expert,

    8) Yen (Shaobo Qin), 'the grease man',

    9) Saul Bloom (Carl Reiner),

    10) Linus Caldwell (Matt Damon), who is the son of one of Ocean's best friends,

plus 11) Danny Ocean (George Clooney), who is the 11th member and the leader of the crew.

Danny explains his plan to the crew, but although the plan is very clever, it is going to be virtually impossible to break the security system.

So, they decide that the big robbery night will be the night, where a very important boxing game will be taking place, when the vault will be containing over $163 million dollars.

do they succeed? watch this fantastic film to find out.
