So boring!
By skeadugenga (148 reviews) from Reading , 06 Aug 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
This totally failed to grab me, despite a wonderful cast (Gylenhall, Dern)it was an opportunity wasted. The characters were sterotypes (inspiring teacher, Dad too obsessed with his job to have time for his son's differing ambitions, supportive Mum, geeky clever kid etc) And schmaltz was ladled on in bucket loads. Nauseous.- Was this review helpful to you?

(20)would have been better without the tacky hollywood scene
By jhn8 (6 reviews) from devon england , 07 Jul 2011Fine acting and a good story, might not appeal to under 30s.
Would be better without that awful tacky scene at the end when they launch the final rocket and dad turns up.
It might be based on a true story but that scene rang totally false .Just what you would expect from producers pandering to the american market.- Was this review helpful to you?

October Sky - Inspiring from start to finish
By Xynil733 (1 review) from Berkshire , 22 Mar 2010Watching this film inspires and reminds us that those who reach out for their dreams can attain them. The Film based on the book 'Rocket Boys' by Homer H Hickham (Jr) tells the story of Homer Hickham's early days as a teenager, becoming inspired by Sputnik, and drawing from that inspiration to better his life, despite the difficulties of growing up in a Coal mining town.
I gave this 5 stars because it left me feeling inspired and I could find no fault with it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Didn't watch all of this
By crispin40 (556 reviews) from Stirling, Scotland , 05 May 2009Have given this a couple of shots in case the mood we were in affected what we thought of it the first time.
However, second time around it still seems to be a 'boys together' film with a boys silly sense of humour etc. Not one to impress the intellects of 2 single pensioner ladies.- Was this review helpful to you?
