Great film of a classic novelBy a customer from Manchester , 16 Jul 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]Some people were forced to read this book during their school years and so will know this story rather well. The film is made with a lot of heart and although it is centred around 'the american dream' which to be honest is overly sappy most of the time, this is a heart warming tale revolving around two men with a loyalty for each other that knows no bounds. A great tale of friendship and overcomng adversity.

Great. As part of a GCSE course...By SheffieldSteve (4 reviews) , 22 Feb 2013We watched this film simply because my daughter is doing the book as part of her GCSE course and I felt it would have been useful. It was useful in that it taught her that books are usually much better than films at telling a story! The film plods along without much action, with some good acting throughout, but I don't imagine it's a film you'd go and see at the cinema and think 'wow, that was a great film'. If you're a fan of Steinbeck or the book, then watch it. As a piece of general entertainment, I can think of some much better options...
Not a patch on the original but okBy jeahan (13 reviews) from cheshire , 17 Feb 2013As a remake this is ok. A but slow for me, as the book moves quite quickly. If you want to watch a version of the book go for the original black and white version with lon chaney and burgess meredith, now thats a classic!
best book adaptationBy fabianapoletto (2 reviews) , 16 Jan 2013Malkovich on his prime, and probably the most faithful and truth adaptation I have ever seen. Steinbech would be proud.

A must see, but get a box of tissues ready.By TheCountessOfRochester (11 reviews) , 27 Feb 2012I am a HUGE John Malkovich fan, He is one of the most diverse and amazing actors there is, nevermind the fact that he is just so sexy. That aside, this movie really shows just how diverse he is. I have read the book, and you may hate me for saying this but I prefer this movie! John Malkovich is OUTSTANDING, showing off just how diverse he can be, you fall in love with his sweet character, he is just loveable. However be ready at the end, although anyone who has read the book knows what will happen, it was such a shock I squealed and then cried like a baby! It was HEARTBREAKING, but I loved it so much I now own it.
