Peter (Livingston) is an office drone who feels that every day of his life is the worst yet. After an incident involving a hypnotist, Peter stops caring about his job, ignoring his work and goofing off. When office consultants find out, they see his attitude as proof that Peter is management material. Director Judge (of BEAVIS AND BUTT-HEAD and "KING OF THE HILL") makes a surprisingly intelligent, hysterical commentary on office life, and this memorable picture firmly establishes Judge as a voice to pay attention to.

This unconventional satire of work relationships and office politics is one of the oddest studio comedies in years. The biggest surprise is that the quirky humour comes courtesy of Mike Judge, one of the creators of the far from subtle Beavis and Butt-head. Jennifer Aniston (as a waitress) and Gary Cole (as a dreary boss) are the familiar faces in an otherwise relatively unknown cast, and the offbeat jokes range from droll references to singer Michael Bolton and Superman III to swipes at restaurant etiquette and office technology. It's not for all tastes and the final third is disappointingly mundane compared to what's gone before.
"...[Judge] possesses an eye for the uncensored truths of our daily lives....If you've ever had a job, you'll be amused by this paean to peons..."
This movie is FUNNY. Not mildly smile at every joke funny, it's roll around in your seat laugh out loud funny. Nearly every other comment made by a character is hysterical. The movie completely captures the essense of the repetition and SAMENESS that can exist hour to hour in corporate cubicle America. The script is funny, thought provoking and also sad.
This movie gently yet methodically parodies every tiny hassle, every little miniscule detail that is encountered - certain things are exaggerated but there's a lot that's pretty accurate - the movie centers on a group of disillusioned corporate cubicle workers who hate everything about their job but are 'trapped'. Peter, the main character, a likable down to earth sort of guy, is particularly grim, he just can't relate and feels human beings were meant to do what they really want to do, not sit in tiny cubicles, doing the same repetitive thing every day. He reports to work every day but doesn't do much of anything when he gets there, just tries hard to look busy. Until one day, through rather bizzare circumstances, he changes his whole outlook and decides he simply won't work anymore-mainly because he just doesn't feel like it!
What follows is a laugh riot, as Peter casually wanders around work day after day, never attempting to work, and actually getting rewarded for doing so!
Mike Judge, creator of the classics 'Beavis and Butthead' and 'King of the Hill' was on top form when he wrote and directed this movie. It is a real must for everyone to see, not just those who have ever worked in an office, although they might get more from this film than most.
Superb film. It really captures working in an office environment. Anyone who has office experience will know a 'Lumberg' character.
