Jovial comedy Old School sees three thirtysomething friends with woman troubles (Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn) deciding to form a college fraternity. It's supposedly to save Wilson from losing his house, which the nearby college is trying to claim for academic purposes, but really Ferrell and Vaughn are desperate to return to the reckless, feckless days of beer bongs and hot chicks, and they drag Wilson along with them as they throw themselves into gathering frat pledges of all ages. Old School could have been just another string of bad jokes hanging on a flimsy plot, but the script and the cast have energy and just enough grounding in reality--at least, up until the obligatory beat-the-system ending, but by that point you'll forgive the excesses of this silly, cheerful, and frequently funny movie. Featuring Jeremy Piven and Juliette Lewis, with cameos by Snoop Dog, Andy Dick, and others. --Bret Fetzer

This follow-up to Road Trip from director Todd Phillips is a spirit-lifting scream. A well-scripted frat-boy flick with a twist, it has a tale that's so irrepressible that it's hard not to warm to its infantile charms. Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn let it all hang out (in Ferrell's case, quite literally) as bored and disillusioned buddies who try to recapture the fun of their college years by establishing their own off-campus fraternity. While Wilson's dry comic style only really comes to life during the film's bolder set pieces, Vaughn and Ferrell are such natural clowns that they up the tempo whenever they're on screen. Of course it's no great stretch for Swingers star Vaughn to do sleazy, sharp wit; neither is Zoolander's Ferrell a stranger to slapstick. However, the two combined are a chuckle-inducing delight, taking the film beyond the realm of just another Animal House carbon copy.
Haphazard collection of poor jokes pretending to be a movie.
i was feeling pretty rough one afternoon, so i needed something mindless and light hearted to watch.
this is EXACTLY that. the jokes stupid enough to get, but its not so dumb that its unbearable. (e.g. dude wheres my car).
really good film, when not in the mood for anything intellegent, and really sweet in some places too.
What can i say, brilliant comedy, saw this back in '03 at the cinema, just didnt stop laughing, so many jokes that are still used by me and my friends today from this film, a real laugh, great to watch with friends before going out to party, absolutly brill!! and for Frank'The Tank'...... what an excellent character, Will Ferrel is da man!!
Fans of Wedding Crashers star Vince Vaughn can now rent out his Chicago, Illinois home. The four-bedroom townhouse is available to rent for £6,785-a-month. And the Old School star is even leaving furniture items in the home, including his king-size bed. The place even comes with Vaughn's home theatre, according to People.com. Vaughn, who turns 39 on Saturday (28Mar09), bought the property in 2005 and has no plans to sell it. He lives nearby in Chicago's Palmolive Building. Read more
