Jovial comedy Old School sees three thirtysomething friends with woman troubles (Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn) deciding to form a college fraternity. It's supposedly to save Wilson from losing his house, which the nearby college is trying to claim for academic purposes, but really Ferrell and Vaughn are desperate .. Read more

This follow-up to Road Trip from director Todd Phillips is a spirit-lifting scream. A well-scripted frat-boy flick with a twist, it has a tale that's so irrepressible that it's hard not to warm to its infantile charms. Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughn let it all hang out (in Ferrell's case, quite literally) as bored and disillusioned buddies who try to recapture the fun of their college years by establishing their own off-campus fraternity. While Wilson's dry comic style only really comes to life during the film's bolder set pieces, Vaughn and Ferrell are such natural clowns that they up the tempo whenever they're on screen. Of course it's no great stretch for Swingers star Vaughn to do sleazy, sharp wit; neither is Zoolander's Ferrell a stranger to slapstick. However, the two combined are a chuckle-inducing delight, taking the film beyond the realm of just another Animal House carbon copy.
Haphazard collection of poor jokes pretending to be a movie.
i was feeling pretty rough one afternoon, so i needed something mindless and light hearted to watch.
this is EXACTLY that. the jokes stupid enough to get, but its not so dumb that its unbearable. (e.g. dude wheres my car).
really good film, when not in the mood for anything intellegent, and really sweet in some places too.
The one reason you should see this film is for the performance of Will Ferrell. Quite possibly the funniest actor I have seen in a comedy since vintage era Steve Martin. Watch out for the scene with a cameo from Seann William Scott and if you don't cry laughing, then there is no funny bone in your body. Great, great fun.
This is without doubt the funniest film the Rooner has ever seen. Anyone (ie. the people below) who go on about the direction and script are nerds who miss the point. It's hilarious and the Rooner would recommend this to anyone with a sense of humour and who loves tha ladies. The Rooner is sometimes saddened by these serious critics who go analyse a masterpiece such as this. It rules, 'nuff said. The Rooner has given it five stars, recognise.
This is what Animal House - 25 years later might have been like. Its the story of three guys who, in order to keep the lease on Wilsons new house which has been threatened by the Dean of a nearby university (who also happens to be a geek they bullied at school), decide to turn it into a Frat House to save it.
Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell and Vince Vaughan are all superb and laugh out loud hilarious in their individual roles but this is unfortunately a very much hit and miss film. When its a hit, its pant soakingly funny. It just needed a bit more tweaking, a few more jokes and a bit of a faster pace. Watch the trailers at the end too. Would have given it 3.5 stars if I could.
Whilst lovers of "American Pie" and "Road Trip" should enjoy this too, "Old School" is far more subtle, intelligent and - with the likes of Luke Wilson and Vince Vaughn - better acted.
That makes it sound as though it's a chin stroker: it's not. There are plenty of wild, cringe-inducing moments, but the script is tight and the characters more real and less caricatured. This is more like a cross between "Animal House" and "Four Weddings and a Funeral", with Wilson the bumbling, romantic, easily-led Hugh Grant type and Will Ferrell taking up the Bluto Blutarski reins. Both actors are excellent, by the way.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this and liked the way it successfully married the current trend for gross-out slapstick with a tight script packed with one-liners. You could do a lot worse than invite a few mates round, get the beers in and watch this movie.

Totally funny, a great film that will have you laughing all the time!
What can i say, brilliant comedy, saw this back in '03 at the cinema, just didnt stop laughing, so many jokes that are still used by me and my friends today from this film, a real laugh, great to watch with friends before going out to party, absolutly brill!! and for Frank'The Tank'...... what an excellent character, Will Ferrel is da man!!
Kept me laughing most of the way through? Ok, so no original gags - but a surprisingly refreshing cast I felt. Definitely worth watching and a good alternative to the American Pie rip-offs. Check it out.
If you like any of the National Lampoon films, you`ll enjoy this movie.
Luke wilson (Owen's brother) plays the most hapless, walkover in history.
His mates, seeing the chance for them to act like single men again, proceed to ruin his life for him.
I laughed from start to finish as this just reminded me of my Uni days, except the breeze block scene - Ouch!!!!!!
enjoy.
This film is genius...hilarious from start to finish! The 3 great comedy actors gel so well together and it's clear this film was a blast to make! This is how comedy is meant to be made!
Animal House for old people - a brilliant concept, nicely done. Vince Vaughn remains the most under-rated actor in America. Didn't really get the Inside the Actors Studio spoof - an extra on the DVD - but the cast seemed to find it very funny.
