While the acting is good to v. good, camera work good, costumes good and some of the sets realistic (even if they don't look like a slum during the close-ups) - and this is why I've given 3 stars - the story line diverts too much from the original as the writer seeks to give it a 'modern' make-over, a certain, soapy feel - one star for the poor modernist approach. As a couple of the production team themselves say (in the bonus material), it'll take a lot to top David Lean's (1948) version. And between these two, David Lean's has it for drama.
