(51)As near to perfection as you will get!
By CHRISTOBEN (101 reviews) from Loughborough , 17 Mar 2013This is an example of British film making at it's very best! Everything about this film just oozes quality and it is difficult to find anything negative to say about it! The casting is spot-on with notable performances from Ron Moody, Shanie Wallis and Jack Wilde- although Mark Lester ( 'Oliver' ) is not a natural actor, this actually works in his favour - he comes across as a 'little boy lost' without the usual trappings of a typical, precocious child actor and that adds to his appeal in the role. The dance sequences are without equal and Bart's songs are the icing on the cake! As near to perfection as you will get!- Was this review helpful to you?

classical brilliance
By cheesekake (1283 reviews) from uk , 06 May 2012there were lots of oliver's done over the years, but this one was the pinicle the best one ever made. Simply because it was in the age when there wasnt special effects or silliness, just pure good singing acting and all round brilliance.

Great Great Great
By oldtimerfilmbuff (17 reviews) , 26 Jan 2012The best British film musical ever. Sad to think Harry and Shani are no longer with us. Where have all the British film makers gone?- Was this review helpful to you?

I want some more!
By RJNeb2 (924 reviews) from London , 13 May 2011One memorable tune follows after another in this vital musical. While Lester is a little insipid in the title role, he's surrounded by a sterling supporting cast, excellent production values, luscious photography and stirring choreography by Onna White. The 'Who Will Buy' sequence is an absolute barnstormer. All of which covers up the fact that this is very dark material to be converted into a musical but it certainly works a treat.- Was this review helpful to you?
