On The Beach

Director Stanley Kramer
Genres Romance
Run time 134 mins Certificate PG

20th October 2011

Consider when this film was made and consider what the world had already been through, this film (perhaps the book more so) must have made people really worry and think about things hard. Those who had survived the Second World War must have recognised the futility of war, only to be presented with a reality check just a few years down the line. A simple flick of a switch and the world could be over.

If you strip away the standard orchestral music throughout 1950's films you are presented with a terrifying look at the end of days, the casting is excellent, there is humour and paranoia in equal measure. Even though film takes out some of the slower moments that exist in the book it is a very accurate rendition and readers will not be disappointed with this adaptation.
