Watchable, but nothing we haven't seen before...
By Ron Burgundy from Derby , 06 Aug 2005[Highly rated reviewer]
Mental asylums are always a good draw for fims but this is by no means the new 'One flew over the cookoo's nest'.
Cillian Murphy (male lead)is engaging and highly watchable as ever, but the predictable plot, lack of laughs and some shallow characterisation makes this film a little disappointing.- Was this review helpful to you?

On The Edge 2001
By Emjay69 (327 reviews) from Kidlington, Oxford , 28 Feb 2011Doesn't quite get there. Cillian Murphy is capable of much better things than this sort of two-bit production. It's not the acting; he does that extremely well. It's the overall shortcut in the story line that could have extended the run time by 15/20 minutes and made it worth watching.
Once again, It's worth a watch as it could be someone that you know.- Was this review helpful to you?

Not bad
By a customer from Mexborough , 09 May 2008Not bad but not great - if you're struggling for something to watch then this would be a good choice.- Was this review helpful to you?

just ok
By blabla (68 reviews) from Sandy , 11 Feb 2008Made before Cillian Murphy got into his stride maybe, but apart from Stephen Rea's psychiatrist, none of the characters seemed sympathetic, & I didn't give a hoot whether they topped themselves.- Was this review helpful to you?

A gem of a film
By a customer from leeds , 17 Jul 2007'...For as long as I can remember i have always wanted to spend christmas in a suburban mental institution'
This is a wonderful film
Cillian murphy plays 19 year old Johnathan Breech who, after the death of his father, attempts to commit suicide by driving his car over a cliff. After escaping with minor injuries he is faced with a choice, prison or a stint in a psychiatric hospital. There he bonds with two other patients, Rachel (Vessey) and Toby (Jackson).
There is also a brilliant part of the pshycologist played by Stephen Rea.
I would thoroughly recommend- Was this review helpful to you?
