This is a great docu/film about the meteoric rise and fall of the New York based soccer club the cosmos. From its lowly start in the early seventies to its peak at around 1977/78 season, when world stars such as pele',beckenbauer, alberta, chinagllia, played for the cosmos in front of record crowds of 70000+ at giants stadium. To the leagues demise in 1984 due to over expansion, poor attendances at the other 20 or so franchises, and teams using highly paid foreign import players who were past there best. The dream could not continue which was a real shame as the potential was there for a great long running league.Interviews include rodney marsh(tampa) carlos alberta(n.y) beckenbauer(n.y) and several other stars including some great footage of some of the games in new york.Highly reccommended for football fans of all ages.
A very well made doco, easy on the eye with a good pace. There is some great footage interweaved with the moving stories of the contributors. The story of the Cosmos is a fascinating one and this film does an excellent job of telling it.
Worth watching just for the footage of Pele's silky skills alone, just a shame they couldn't get an interview with the big man.
