I thought Once Upon A Time In China II was great, but wasn't a scratch on the original. Whereas in the first the climactic fight was against a character whom you had seen developed and cared about, the sequel's closing fight was slow and far less interesting. Like it's predecessor its a slow starter, without a fight for the first 20 minutes or so. After that it warms up into the normal Jet Li hi-speed hi-skill action we love.
Once again the film makes for a very interesting history lesson, especially for those with an eye for Chinese culture. Also, this time, us Britons aren't the evil villains (hoorah). But still, OUATIC II just can't compare to the original. Very enjoyable, with great characters and action, but not quite a classic.
