Patience Needed

I liked this, but must say that I felt it dragged. The story unfolded very gently, and the film is loaded with Irish charm. For once, Colin Farrell is a likeable character, and he seems to excel at playing this kind of role. This is the best thing I've seen him in apart from In Bruges. The music is particularly well done, giving the film an ethereal quality that contrasts effectively with some of the occasional seedy moments when we meet Farrell's alcoholic ex-wife. Personally, I would have settled for a mysterious ending, as the true origin of Ondine herself adds nothing to the film. I think this is the kind of movie that you'd enjoy if you liked Luc Besson's Angela. It is a bit weird, a bit magical, a bit atmospheric and rather slow. Definitely not one to watch with the lads on a Saturday night.- Was this review helpful to you?

(54)the litle mermaid
By open (230 reviews) , 19 Aug 2012This was really sweet and the location was great. The daughter was a star in the making. I liked the majortiy of the film but it unravelld in the last 20 minutes which was a shame.- Was this review helpful to you?

Better to put nice dinner ONDINING table!
By Bobsview (549 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 16 Jun 2012A mediocre film that is watchable but only just. The best thing about it is the sound track / score. The story itself is just about tolerable . Overall a so so movie. The mermaid's rapid transition from drowned rat to lingerie model in 2 hours flat is not credible. The film is to some extent saved by the twist at the end which delivers an explanation to the mystery. But not a memorable film really.- Was this review helpful to you?

dark and depressing
By a customer , 22 Apr 2012This film was fairly average. It was alternative and introverted, which was cool in a quirky way but the whole feeling of the film dragged on a bit and I found myself losing intrest rappidly. Mumbling through lines doesn't help either! bittersweet and worth watching if you like dark stories.- Was this review helpful to you?

Little quirky and enjoyable
By angecm (35 reviews) from London , 28 Jan 2012[Highly rated reviewer]
This movie is a little quirky but I really liked it. Colin Farrell plays a single dad living in a small town in Ireland. He loves his little daughter and plays to her imagination. One day out fishing he pulls a beautiful mysterious woman from the sea. He falls in love with her and she brings him and his daughter happiness. His daughter is convinced she's a magical sea creature. Easy watching love story / fantasy drama- Was this review helpful to you?
