I wasnt expecting greatness, however I was expecting a charming little tale that would let me leave the cinema with a smile. I dont know what went wrong but something certainly did.
Colin Farrell plays a one-time alcoholic fisherman who catches a mysterious beauty (Alicja Bachleda) in his nets while trawling off the West Cork coast. His disabled daughter (Alison Barry) who is so 'wise' it's annoying, beleives she is a mythical selkie and eventually Colin beleives it too. All the elements of a charming story with a bit of a mystery are there, however they seem put together in such a slap-dash manner, none of it comes across as very real. The characters are completley non engaging and the two leads lacked chemistry. The revelation of the mystery is underwhelming to say the least and from there the story just goes from bad to worse.
