Movie madness!

I have been meaning to watch this movie for some time now, mainly due to its reputation as being an all time classic.
After seeing the film, I now understand what the all the fuss is about...the entire movie, although fairly slow in pace will have you gripped from start to finish. The film pretty much resides in one location - the mental institute, and has little in the way of a plot, but there's not many movies that can keep a smile on your face for nearly 2 hours like this does.
It's the characters that compell you to watch this movie. Lead by Jack Nicholson and supported by a very young Danny Devito and a very bald Christopher Lloyd, the film explores the relationships between patients and asks the question 'How do you define madness?'- Was this review helpful to you?

A Psychiatric Evaluation
By Roddenberry (31 reviews) from Bristol , 15 Mar 2013Brilliant and flawed. So many noteworthy performances and for me a film that is must watch. I mean now, go rent/buy it and watch it. I know the books 50 years old, the films nigh on 40 years old and the moratorium must surely be over for spoilers, but I don't want to give any, even though so many parts of this film have become part of the subconscious memory. I actually thought I'd seen it before, but I hadn't, it was just that some parts are just parts of pop culture that, somehow, I knew. To briefly cover the flawed bit, sometimes the characters feel lost, for sake of story, plot, rhythm or pacing and it jars a little. And it must also be said Nurse Ratched is one of the greatest movie villains ever, not an archetypical 'bad guy', but subtle, needling and, no pun intended, clinical. It was also fun to realise what this group of actors went on to do, Christopher Lloyd and Danny Devito had some film success, but I loved them both in Taxi, which I discovered in my late teens on Paramount Comedy, Brad Dourif has a notable number of horror genre films, but for me, I recall his brilliant potrayal of Lon Suder in Star Trek Voyager and Louise Fletcher, the third Trek alumni I recognised (Lloyd was in The Search For Spock), who was perhaps channelling some Nurse Ratched as Kai Winn in Deep Space Nine. Saw this back in the mid-Seventies when Jack could do no wrong and a couple of times on TV, but NO regrets watching it again........a cinematic landmark- Was this review helpful to you?

going mental for a film

with the exploration of how mental institutions were run and the slight message of the irony of how the stifling of the system can actually lead to more anger and mental implosion this film is a very entertaining watch
the film also contains some great character development and from start to finish will leave you examining yourself and any percieved ideas you had of how life really goes behind the barred windows of institutions- Was this review helpful to you?
